【バウンス界の帝王】TJR独占インタビュー!!

今回の特集記事は7月に来日したバウンス界の帝王こと『TJR』に独占インタビューさせて頂きました！！

日本のクラブシーンで聴かない日はない程ヘビープレイされている、数々の楽曲を世に生み出し続けている彼。

今回日本でS2O JAPAN、Riviera Sapporoに出演し、またまたオーディエンスを盛り上げた彼にヒット曲の制作秘話や日本の印象など、ここでしか聞けない話も…？！

Interview

◇今回のアジアツアーで日本に来られましたが、日本にはどのような印象を持たれていますか？

As for your Asian Tour, what kind of impression did you feel this time in Japan?

もちろん、とても気に入ったよ。

本当に今回も日本でDJができて嬉しく思う。間違いなく今回のツアーは思い出になったよ!

I absolutely loved it. It’s always a great pleasure and an honor to be able to play in Japan and this tour was no different. It was a memorable one!

◇日本ではS20(大型フェス)とRiviera(クラブ)の出演がありましたがそれぞれ出演を終えてみてどのような印象を持たれましたか？

There were 2 shows that you’ve performed in Japan, (S20 (large festival) and Riviera (local club)), what kind of impression and how could you tell the difference between those venues while you were playing?

それぞれ違いはあったね。だから、それぞれのプレイのやり方など色々変えることで楽しめたよ。

Rivieraでプレイするのは親近感があってとても良かった。
札幌という場所も初めてだったし、オーディエンスとの距離感と人間性がよく見えたからね。特別な経験ができたよ。

S2Oももちろんよかった。
野外だし、ステージの規模も大きい。
雨だったのにもかかわらず空間がエネルギーに満ち溢れていたよ。

There was a difference and it’s what makes playing both types of settings so much fun. I loved playing at Riviera because of the intimacy of the club. I was up close and personal with the crowd plus it was my first time playing in Sapporo so that was special. S20 was fun because it was outdoors and a big stage. The energy and atmosphere was awesome. Unfortunately it did rain but the crowd was still electric.

◇日本のクラブシーンでは毎日ご自身の楽曲が数多くプレイされ、人気を博していますがそれはご存知でしたか？

A lot of your own tracks have been used and played in the Japanese club scene these days, did you recognize this?

もちろん! 僕の音楽が日本のみんなと一緒に繋がってとても幸運だよ。幸せに思う!

I do and I’m very fortunate my music has connected with the people of Japan. Makes me very happy 🙂

◇数多くのヒット曲をリリースし、EDM創世期を彩り、今なおご活躍をされているTJRさんですが、キャリアにおいてターニングポイントとなった出来事を教えて頂けますか？

In this day and age, many hit music were released from your production. It is not an exaggeration to say, you are one of the producers who created EDM generation period. Could you explain us what was the main trigger as your turning point in your career?

ありがとう。EDMブームの最初の波に乗ることができて嬉しいよ。

Beatportで『Funky Vodka』が一位をとって、Pitbullとの『Dont Stop The Party』が大きな思い出となったよ。それが、僕に必要だった自信を与えてくれた。
ただ、実際のところ僕が思うに、本当のターニングポイントとなったのは『Ode to Oi』なんだ。なぜならそれが僕にアイデンティティを与えてくれたからさ。
本来自分が探していた”音”をね。

メルボルンバウンスのダンスシーンにもすごくインスピレーションを受けていて、現在の作曲に役立っているよ。

Thank you! I was lucky to be a part of the first wave of EDM. Funky Vodka going #1 on Beatport and then Pitbull turning it into Dont Stop The Party was a big moment for me. It gave me the confidence I needed. But I think it was Ode to Oi that really was the turning point because it gave me an identity. I had a “sound”. I was extremely inspired by the Melbourne Bounce dance scene and that inspiration helped me create the sound I’m known for today.

◇ご自身の楽曲の中で『Mic Check』や『Fuck Me Up』など日本でも人気の楽曲が数多くありますが、その中でも『We Wanna Party』は聴かない日はないというくらいプレイされていますね。

お伺いできる範囲で『We Wanna Party』はどのように誕生したのか、制作秘話をお聞かせください。

There are many popular songs in Japan such as “Mic Check” and “Fuck Me Up” among your songs. Among them, “We Wanna Party” is especially the most popular song for the audience while they are in the club to listen. How “We Wanna Party” was born and was there any secret story for that? We would appreciate it if you could tell us as best as you can.

ベガスにいた頃、『We Want Some Pussy』のマッシュアップを作っていたんだけど、クラブの女の子がその曲を歌っているのを見なかったんだ。それがアイディアとなり、女の子が夢中になるような歌詞を作ることにしたんだ。
特に９０年代の音楽からたくさんのアイディアを得ることができたよ。ダンスミュージックの黄金時代だった思う。

I used to play a mashup of We Want Some Pussy in Vegas but I saw the girls at the club would not sing it. It gave me the idea to change up the lyrics so the girls would be into it. I get a lot of my ideas from the past especially songs from the 90s. Golden era for dance music.

◇ご自身の今後の展望についてお聞かせください。

Please tell us about your future prospects.

今、自分のスタジオでもたくさんの新しい音楽を探求しているところだよ。

だから色々なことを試して、それがどうなるかを実験している最中なんだ。

I’m having a lot of fun exploring new music

styles in the studio so I’m going to keep on experimenting and see where it takes me.

◇最後に、近年日本でもTJRさんのように世界で活躍するプロデューサーを目指す若者が増えてきています。
彼らにアドバイスがあればお聞かせください。

In recent years, there has been increasing that many young generations who mention as they want to produce and play DJ in the world, like TJR. We are looking forward to having any advice from you about this.

聞いてくれてありがとう。私は熱心に学ぶことを身につけなさいと言うだろう。
楽曲制作とDJの新しいアプローチ方法について常に学んでいけるような好奇心を持たなければならない。
それに正解はないので、常に研究しているよ。

ダンスミュージックを愛することも学ぶんだ。
SNSやフェスティバルでプレイすることよりはるかにダンスミュージックとの繋がりを持つことが重要さ。
また、プロのツアーDJとして制作するかどうかにかかわらず、個人的な繋がりが必要なんだ。

そして最後に、目標を立てること。それをホワイトボードに書き、寝室に置いて、毎日見えるようにするんだ。

I appreciate hearing about this. I would say learn to love learning. You must have the curiosity that keeps you driven to learn new approaches to production and djing. It’s endless out there so always be researching. Also learn to love dance music. It’s important to have a connection with dance music that goes well beyond social media and playing the biggest festivals. You should have a personal connection so that it brings you joy whether or not you make it professionally as a touring dj. And lastly, make goals. Write them on a white board and put it up in your bedroom so you see it every day.
